Get to Know Kelly "Diesel" Seng (Tue/Thu 7AM)

1. Where are you from and how did you end up in Philly?
I'm actually local.  I was born in Media and grew up in Lancaster County (and no, I'm not Amish) but I did take a detour through Boston, Ma for a year and then Denver, Co for 7 years.  I moved back to be closer to my family.

2. Why did you choose to be a trainer?
It's kind of funny, I was actually recruited by a group of trainers I had developed a friendly relationship with at the gym where I was a member.  One day as I was pedaling on the stationary bike, chating with one of the lead trainers, he said to me, "Why don't you just work here?  You obviously know how to work out and you're here all the time anyway...".  At that time I was looking to make a professional transition and I became excited to share my love for a physical challange and a healthy lifestyle.

3. What is your favorite healthy food? unhealthy food?
I actually love fruits and veggies (without having to cover them in cheese sause)!  When I am in the habit of eating lots of them I find myself actually craving that daily salad.  My biggest struggle is with sugar.  I have a huge sweet tooth!  My two favorites are Jelly Belly jelly beans, and decadent ice creams like Ben and Jerry's.

4. What type of exercise or sport is most influential to you? What exercises do you dislike?
I was a gymnast for 5 years early in life and my own workouts are still influenced by the exercises I did when I was training.  When I discovered yoga 4 years ago I thought, "This is like gymnastics for adults!"  I was hooked.  I also love to run; it is like meditation to me.  I have recently been drawn toward muy tai kickboxing and power lifting.  I like to try as many new things as possible and there is not much I dislike...except for maybe the spin bike.

5. What motivates you to exercise, eat well and live healthy?
Being healthy and fit gives me freedom, the freedom to enjoy life without any physical limitations, sickness, or pain.  Exercise feeds my competitive nature and builds my confidence in the way I look so I am more willing to show my true, inner self to others.

Very interesting. So how often do you indulge your sweet tooth?
