Is Your Water Bottle Safe?

I am drinking water to be healthy, reusing a bottle to be green,
but is the plastic bottle killing me?

As of April 19th, 2008 Wal-Mart has banned the sale of any BPA plastics in their stores. It is also outlawed in Europe. What is more if you go to Nalgene and Camelbak's websites (the leaders in water bottle sales) you will find right on their homepages promotions of their new worry free BPA bottles. It is said that the level of BPA increases when placing these bottles in the hot dishwasher, but the argument is more about at what level it becomes toxic for the body.

BPA is in many of the polycarbonate plastics or hard plastics that are used in bottles and dishes. Low doses of BPA were found to have serious health effects on rats, however the main regulating European body said that humans unlike rats metabolize the substance and that exposure is well below harmful levels.

Regardless of the research, I think it might just be best to avoid as much unnatural substances in your body as possible but I wouldn't go crazy avoiding eating/drinking out of plastic just yet. This is part of the reason we decided to get stainless steel water bottles for Fusion, just in case, plus they look really sharp!

Your comments about Europe banning/outlawing BPA products are just not true. Educate yourself:
